AAMU First Lady's Luncheon Set for March 24

Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University has announced its Second Annual First Lady's Scholarship Luncheon, scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 12 noon in the Ernest L. Knight Reception Center on the AAMU campus.

Event organizers anticipate the participation of students, faculty and staff, alumni, community leaders, churches and the community at large.  In addition to serving as a mechanism through which to honor the University's esteemed first ladies since its founding in 1875, the luncheon is an earnest effort to raise scholarship funds for deserving AAMU students at Alabama A&M University who exemplify the spirit of our founder, Dr. William Hooper Councill.

Additionally, the program committee has prepared a very special presentation in honor of the nine First Ladies of the University:  Mrs. Councill, Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Drake, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Covington, Mrs. Henson, Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Hugine.  During the luncheon, planners will unveil future plans to honor the legacy of the First Ladies of Alabama A&M University and other university scholarship initiatives.

First Ladies have played an important role throughout AAMU history.  For instance, First Lady Abbiegail Hugine, the wife of AAMU's eleventh president, Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., has been instrumental in the consistency of campus beautification efforts through the formation the Bulldog Pride Committee, Adopt-A-Dorm program and other initiatives.

The cost of the luncheon tickets is $500 for a reserved table; individual tickets are $40.00 per person for general seating.  Ticket requests are increasing each day, and reserved tables will be limited.  For tickets, contact Andrea Cunningham at (256) 372-5230.  For additional information regarding the luncheon, call event co-chairs Dr. Jeanette Jones at (256) 372-4924 or Felicia Wilson at (256) 372-5715.
