The James E. Shepard Memorial Library is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Reference Librarian.  This is a twelve month non-tenure track position.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head of Reference, the Reference Librarian is responsible for providing reference assistance and library instruction to the students, faculty, and staff. Develops and maintains assigned library collections and serves as liaison to assigned subject areas.  Serving as a liaison includes assisting with collection development (both selection and weeding), creating and maintaining both print and electronic subject specific research guides and tutorials, and providing subject specific library instruction.  As a part of the Reference Department the Reference Librarian will be responsible for working the Reference Desk as assigned.  The Reference Librarian is expected to work weekends as scheduled and nights as needed.  This person is also responsible for collaborating with other staff members as needed to complete various projects and assignments.  The Reference Librarian may also be responsible for assisting with supervising the work of student assistants and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in library science, from an ALA – accredited program; demonstrated skills in technology, reference and library instruction. Two years minimum experience in professional library services. The ability to work both independently and collegially in a demanding and rapidly changing environment and a strong commitment to public service is required. A strong commitment to quality customer service is required. The applicant must also have excellent oral and written communication skills.
