Hampton University News September 14, 2015 Hampton University Implements Everbridge Incident Notification System for Critical Communications Hampton University is now using Everbridge to provide emergency alerts and other important updates to students, faculty, and staff. This system enables Hampton to deliver critical information to our campus about a wide variety of situations, including campus safety alerts, public health emergencies, campus evacuations, and class cancellations. Everbridge's Pirate Notification System sends time-sensitive messages to recipients through multiple contact methods, including those most popular with students, such as text messaging, email, mobile app, voice calls, and social media. Students choose which alerts they wish to get and how they will receive these updates, and they can update their contact preferences at any time. "We believe this system increases our ability to effectively reach out to our community. The great thing about the system is that it allows us to reach out to members wherever they are-in class, in the dorms, or somewhere in transit-in the way that works for them. You pick where and how you receive critical information," said Hampton University Police Chief David Glover. "Everbridge now gives Hampton University the ability to send emergency messages about matters of safety and well-being quickly and efficiently." HU officials said that Everbridge's web-based system was chosen as the best solution for meeting their needs to communicate quickly and effectively about threats to the student community. Everbridge is a recognized market leader in the critical communication and incident notification industry. Key evaluation criteria for the system included reliability, redundancy, cost effectiveness, ease-of-use, and speed at which the HU community could be reached during critical events. It's free for HU students, faculty and staff to enroll in the Pirate Notification System. Registration is fast and simple, students, faculty and staff will receive an enrollment link in their university email accounts. "Everbridge will allow us to streamline our response to threats, as well as alert our campus of power outages, health issues, facility closures, and much more. It takes less than two minutes to sign up," Glover added. "We believe that this system will improve our preparedness and help us create a safer community for students to live in."
