SSU student earns university system honors
Savannah State University (SSU) student Aaliyah Buckholts will be honored by the University System of Georgia (USG) Board of Regents during the annual Academic Recognition Day. The event will be held Tuesday, February 12, in Atlanta, Ga.
Buckholts is a junior mathematics major with a track in secondary education. A native of Riverdale, Ga., she is the vice president of SSU's chapter of Ga. Association of Educators, member of the National Council of Negro Women, a tutor for the Upward Bound program and a student assistant in the registrar's office. Buckholts began college as a dual enrolled student and has maintained a 4.0 GPA during her time at SSU.
"I really appreciate having a student like Aaliyah in my calculus class. She is a model student and a joy to have in class," said Agegnehu Atena, Ph.D., SSU mathematics professor.
Inviting a student from each institution, Academic Recognition Day honors the educational achievement of students who exemplify the best of USG by enhancing the intellectual, economic, social, civic, and cultural well being of the entire state through dedicated teaching and research and excellence in learning.
