Mass Communication Students receive Hands-on Experience with New Equipment
Mass Communications students at Edward Waters College will receive invaluable experience for radio and television broadcast fields by getting to work with new equipment. The college acquired $50,000 of donated cameras and radio-audio boards that professors plan to use in their classrooms.
"This will be equipment for students to work on, and it will provide them with skills they can fit into an internship or job," said Professor, Dan Henrich. Among the items are three broadcast-quality cameras, two camera stands, audio boards, a master control board for radio, beta cam decks, and a broadcast switcher.
"Our students can not continue to study mass communications without opportunities for 'hands-on' training or education," said the Chair of Communications, Dr. Peter Tahsoh.
Dr. Tahsoh has spent the last year completely restructuring the Department of Mass Communications adding new courses and faculty members. "I hired faculty with extensive professional experience and knowledge from which our students can benefit a lot," said Dr. Tahsoh.
The equipment was donated to Edward Waters College by Huntington University in Indiana and Liberty University in Virginia. Dr. Tahsoh and Mr. Henrich says the equipment won't serve as just the foundation for their students educations. They hope it will be used to start a new campus radio and television station.
"Believing that we will be given the space and financial support, we hope to build a television studio and radio station for our students and Edward Waters College. As our President has said repeatedly, 'Edward Waters College is on the rise,'" said Dr. Tahsoh.
