BSC Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Awarded $7300 Grant from WV Higher Education Policy Commission
(Bluefield)-A coordinated effort to promote campus environments that are inclusive and respectful of diversity at Bluefield State College has received a timely expression of support. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) recently announced its decision to award a $7,300 "Diversity for Equity" grant to the College.
Dr. Guy A. Sims, BSC Assistant to the President for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, authored and submitted the grant. The grant supports several projects, aimed at fostering campus environments that are inclusive of various generational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. "Projects funded through the initiative focus on closing achievement gaps among underrepresented populations and preparing students to live and work in a diverse world," observed Dr. Sims. Programs underwritten by the grant include speakers, films, festivals, and a mini-conference.
"The 'Diversity for Equity Grant' is a significant resource to bring to our campus educational experiences designed to impact and enlighten our students, staff, and local community," he added. "HEPC's investment will assist in the campus-wide collaborative efforts to highlight a diverse compliment of ideas, voices, and activities."
