Georgetown-Howard Center Offers Master's Degree in Translational Research

The Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical Translational Science (GHUCCTS) is currently accepting applications for its new Master of Science degree in Clinical and Translational Research (MS-CTR) based at Georgetown University.

The MS-CTR is a 33-credit degree program targeted primarily to doctoral-trained clinicians --M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D., D.D.S., D.M.D. or D.N.P.-- or research professionals at the GHUCCTS institutions, which include Georgetown University, Howard University, MedStar Health Research Institute, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Washington Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.

This new graduate program will provide a rigorous grounding in foundational aspects of research methods, including study design and data analysis, as well as proposing, conducting, managing and reporting clinical and translational research in an ethically responsible manner.

Trainees will have the opportunity to acquire skills in project design and associated grant preparation, effective communication of research results and skills for clinical investigation.

Courses will address ethical considerations pertaining to biomedical research, cultural competence to increase awareness and knowledge of how the delivery and acceptance of health care may be influenced by social, cultural and environmental factors to reduce health disparities, among other topics.

Students can specialize in at least one of three areas of concentration: Mechanistic and Biomedical Research, Clinical Trials and Research and Health Services and Community Engagement.

Program information, a detailed course description and a link to the online application for the fall 2012 semester can be found on the GHUCCTS website, http://georgetownhowardctsa.org/.
