Morgan State University News November 21, 2011 MSU-COAST GUARD PARTNERSHIP OPENS DOORS FOR STUDENTS Morgan State University and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that creates a partnership for Morgan students that is unprecedented in the school's history. "This agreement gives our students a direct pipeline to careers and other opportunities with the U.S. Coast Guard," says Morgan President David Wilson. "From internships to employment opportunities for current and prospective students, this partnership opens doors never before made available to them. It also provides the USCG with access to a very diverse workforce it needs to remain at the top of its game." Morgan students, current and future, will be able to participate in such programs as the Coast Guard's Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP) and The Coast Guard Federal Career Intern Program. These programs can provide summer internships with the USCG, government civilian career mentorship and the opportunity to enroll in the USCG's Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), which is a work experience program directly related to students' academic and career pursuits. Through this program, students could be assured career placement with the Coast Guard. An additional benefit of the program is that it offers temporary employment opportunities for students who are already enrolled or have been accepted as a student seeking a degree while in high school, a vocational/technical program, undergraduate or graduate school. It also offers Morgan students, typically entering their junior year, a fully funded scholarship for up to two years, paying full tuition, books and supplies as well as a stipend. The MOA is part of the U.S. Coast Guard's commitment to education and to providing current and prospective service members with access to higher education. It represents Morgan's commitment to offering its students an excellent educational experience.
