DR. CORNEL WEST NAMED AS FEATURED SPEAKER FOR MLK EVENT

Jefferson City, MO- Renowned intellectual Dr. Cornel West will serve as the featured speaker for Lincoln University's Annual Martin Luther King Celebration. West will deliver his address as part of the program scheduled for Thursday, January 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Richardson Fine Arts Center Mitchell Auditorium.  Doors will open at 6 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

West, who is a regularly featured guest on national news programs, is the author of over 20 books, including "Race Matters", "Democracy Matters" and "Brother West: Living Out Loud".  One his most recent works, "The Radical King", takes a look at the work of Dr. Martin Luther King and how radical his efforts were, despite being well-known for his nonviolence. He is a Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University.

The Annual Martin Luther King Celebration is hosted by the Lincoln University Office of Student Activities.  The program will also include the presentation of the Drum Major Award, which recognizes a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated the principles set forth by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
