Subject: [BCALA] Position opening at Wake Forest University

Research and Instruction Librarian for History and the Social Sciences
Wake Forest University

Z. Smith Reynolds Library seeks a creative and collaborative library professional with the ability to provide innovative services through their position as Research and Instruction Librarian.  The successful candidate serves as the library’s liaison and subject specialist for History and relevant Social Sciences in the Undergraduate College and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. This position will  provide subject-specific leadership for collection building, as well as reference assistance for students, faculty, and the university community. Additionally, the librarian will provide instruction both for college courses (traditional one-shot library instruction), and for-credit information literacy class instruction including introductory level information literacy instruction and/or subject-specific information literacy classes. Specific social science liaison responsibilities will be assigned based on the successful applicants’ education and experience. Applicants with education and/or experience in History and any of the following social sciences are encouraged to apply: Anthropology, Communication, Counseling, Education, Psychology, Sociology and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.  This is a twelve-month position, with Library Faculty status, and reports to the Director of Research and Instruction Services.
Selection preference will be given to candidates with the ability to work productively, both independently and with a team; ability to plan and carry out instruction; strong commitment to public service; flexibility to adapt and respond to the ever-changing landscape of information services in an academic library; and excellent communication, research and writing skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or a master’s degree in a related field with one to three years of experience in an academic or research library setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Desired Qualifications: Master's degree in history or a social science; experience planning and conducting library instruction; collection management experience.
Salary and Rank: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is appointed to a Library Faculty rank as established by Wake Forest University. Rank at appointment is based on the successful applicant’s experience and relevant credentials.
Review of applications begins October 1st, and continues until the position is filled.  Interested applicants should go to https://wakejobs.silkroad.com/WFU/Employment_Listings.html and submit cover letter, resume and references within the online system.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Library, with a collection of over 1.7 million volumes, materials expenditures of over $5 million, and an operating budget of over $8 million, serves over 4,800 undergraduates and 1,300 graduate and professional students.  Wake Forest is a private university where academic excellence is consistently recognized through rankings in the top tier of the country’s finest liberal arts institutions.  Wake Forest offers a rare combination – the academic and technological resources, facilities and Division I athletic programs associated with a large university with the compact campus, small classes and individual attention only a smaller school can provide. The University has a deep institutional commitment to public service and engagement with the world, as indicated by its motto Pro Humanitate.  The University is beautifully located between the western mountains and east coast beaches of North Carolina.

Wake Forest University welcomes and encourages diversity and seeks applicants with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations. Wake Forest seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce to maintain the excellence of the University, and to offer students richly varied disciplines, perspectives and ways of knowing and learning.
