Fisk University News February 2020 Fisk University to Host NAAAHP 29th National Conference The 29th annual conference of the National Association of African American Honors Programs is returning to Nashville, Tennessee, with Fisk University serving as host institution. The NAAAHP conference will be held Nov. 11-24, 2020 at the Embassy Suites Cool Springs in Franklin, about 20 minutes south of Nashville off I-65-S. This will be the third time since 2015 that the national conference will be hosted in Nashville. On the two previous occasions, Tennessee State University was conference host, under the leadership of Dr. Coreen Jackson serving as national president. This year, Vice Provost for Student Success and Acting Dean of Humanities and Social Behavioral Sciences Dr. Kenneth E. Jones is president of the organization. In that role, Dr. Jones has identified Nashville as the next site for the conference. "These are exciting times for Fisk University," said Dr. Jones. "Hosting the conference this year only reinforces the widely accepted understanding that 'Fisk' means academic excellence." According to Dr. Jones, the executive leadership of the organization is well into planning for the upcoming conference, but much is yet to be done. For the conference to be a complete success, the Fisk University community must be involved. "We will need all hands on deck," Dr. Jones recently told members of the Fisk University Faculty Assembly. NAAAHP will be heavily relying on the W.E.B. DuBois Honors Program to assist in welcoming to Music City visitors from HBCU institutions from across the nation. NAAAHP is also seeking sponsorship for conference activities, including the honors banquet, quiz bowl and debate, research and poster presentations, oratorical contest, model UN, and other competitions and activities. A highlight of the conference is the Career and Graduate School Fair, where up to 70 representatives of colleges, universities, and corporate entities will conduct on-site interviews and accept resumes of some of the nation's leading undergraduate scholars.
