CULMINATION OF 150th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATES VETERANS

Jefferson City, MO- Lincoln University will end a yearlong commemoration of 150 years of providing education with a celebration in honor of our nation's veterans, including the founders of the university.  Scheduled for Friday, November 11, at 2 p.m. in Thomas D. Pawley Theatre in Martin Luther King Hall, this year's Veterans Day program will include a special tribute to the men of the 62nd and 65th Colored Infantries, who helped establish the institution following the close of the Civil War.

The Veterans Day program speaker is Col. Christopher Fry, Sr. who was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in May 1987.  Col. Fry was recognized as a Distinguished Military Student while earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree from Lincoln University.  He was inducted into the Lincoln University Army ROTC Hall of Fame in 2014.  After a long military career of 30 years, Col. Fry will retire as the US Army Cadet Command, Assistant Chief of Staff, USAR and Senior Army Reserve Advisor, at Fort Knox, Kentucky in June of 2017.

An added feature to the university's annual program is a one-man play entitled, "Brethren", by Gregory S. Carr. Carr, an instructor of Speech and Theatre at Harris-Stowe State University, will depict a member of the United States Colored Infantries on his journey from slave to soldier to one of the founders of what was then Lincoln Institute. The program will also feature original poetry by alumni.

The Lincoln University Veterans Day program is free and open to the public.
