Alabama State University News September 6, 2011 ASU to Host 'Great Time' Reception in Detroit; Chartered Flight Seats Available for Eastern Michigan Game Alumni and friends are invited to ASU's "Great Time to be a Hornet" Reception in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 9. Fans in the Montgomery area can purchase a chartered flight package to attend the Hornets game against the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Sept. 10. ASU officials are making preparations for the "Great Time to be a Hornet Reception" that will be held in Detroit, Mich., on September 9, the evening prior to the Hornets' football game against the Eagles of Eastern Michigan. "We're taking the President's Tour on its longest trip yet," said ASU President William H. Harris. The reception will be staged in the same manner as the road trips that took ASU faculty, staff and students to cities across the state of Alabama and into Georgia. "We wanted to take the opportunity to share the Vision 2020 Transformation story with Michigan alumni and friends, as well as potential students and their parents," Harris said. "We have always had a great deal of support from the state of Michigan. Thanks to our many faithful alumni in the state, the University has had tremendous success in recruiting Michigan students." Those attending the reception will receive firsthand information about the exciting new developments taking place at the University, including reports on new academic programs, new construction and renovation projects and the new Hornet Stadium that is now under construction. Potential ASU students also will be offered scholarships. During the week leading up to the reception, members of the ASU recruitment team will blitz several Detroit-area schools. "We are always excited to visit students in Detroit," said Fred Thomas, ASU's recruitment coordinator. "The school tour will give us an opportunity to meet local students and provide them information about the University's academic programs and help them with financial aid. We want to show them why we say with passion that 'It's a Great Time to be a Hornet!'" The "Great Time to be a Hornet" Reception will be held at 6 p.m. at the MGM Grand Hotel, located at Third Street in Detroit. The event is free and open to the public.
