Dear HBCU Library Alliance members,

First and foremost, take care, be safe and practice an abundance of caution in all that you do. Let's continue to stand together in sharing resources and as a voice of peace and encouragement.

The purpose of this e-mail is to provide information and gather requested survey information for a Virtual Justice Project funding proposal to support virtual instruction.

Background

The Virtual Justice Projecthttp://law.nccu.edu/technology/virtual-justice-project/, since its 2010 inception, with funding from the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Broadband Technology Opportunity Project (BTOP), has remained at the forefront of legal education and delivered reliable access to virtual education solutions to thousands of students, staff, faculty and community individuals across the country. The Virtual Justice Project at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has taken the necessary steps to meticulously plan, implement and grow their abilities to virtually deliver classes, legal access, telemedicine, national and even global convenings.

Virtual Justice Project Co-Founder Greg Clinton reached out to the HBCU Library Alliance Board to offer assistance and support with remote instruction solutions. At the onset of COVID-19, the NCCU School of Law immediately converted all classrooms into virtual classrooms. The transition was seamless with virtual instruction fully operational since March 16th. The NCCU School of Law did not extend spring break and students have continued their academic studies without interruption.

Funding Opportunity

As our institutions move to online instruction, the Virtual Justice Project, in partnership with the HBCU Library Alliance, is developing a funding proposal to address the immediate and future virtual education needs that have resulted from COVID-19. Through anticipated funding, the goal is to facilitate virtual solutions to as many campuses, sites, and institutions as possible.

Your Assistance and Survey

Your assistance is needed as we first quickly learn about your institutional infrastructure needs.  This will aid to ensure that faculty is equipped with the proper hardware, software, and training to facilitate instruction from both home and school.

Follow this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HBCUTechSurvey and promptly respond to the brief survey no later than close of business on Monday, March 30. Your response is critical as we gather needed information to effectively assess institutional needs.

Your immediate attention to this matter is appreciated. For additional information, please contact me at mrhue@jcsu.edumailto:mrhue@jcsu.edu or Executive Director Phoenix at sphoenix@hbculibraries.orgmailto:sphoenix@hbculibraries.org.
