Thank you for your message Monika.

I encourage our colleagues to bring to the attention of our administrations the ALA executive board recommendation for libraries. https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/blogs/the-scoop/ala-executive-board-recommends-closing-libraries-to-public/

Libraries must be careful to prohibit groups gathering in the library.  The only way to manage that may be limiting student access to 9 or fewer at a time....but it only takes one...so perhaps the best way is for the library to deliver its operations 100% virtual.  This would support faculty and students and library staff/faculty, especially in the larger shops. It can be/should be an opportunity for the library to lead in the provision of digital support, especially those with an IR, and podcasts can be created by librarians and faculty for use in this new environment.  IMHO.

Dear HBCU Library Alliance Members:

The HBCU Library Alliance is devoted to you and takes pride in advocating on your behalf. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has impacted universities, communities, families and friends.

HBCUs have a strong record and history of surviving and pulling together in hard times. I encourage you to continue that legacy of pulling together and being a resource for one another. It is important that we stand together not only in sharing resources, but as a voice of peace and encouragement in these uncertain times.

I know there has been an exchange of emails regarding how libraries are preparing for the COVID-19. I am sharing a few of those links with you. Please feel free to contact me or Executive Director Phoenix if there are specific ways that we can offer assistance. Thank you for allowing us to serve you.

Respectfully,
Monika Rhue
