Organization Fair & Zipcar Launch Attract Students at Cheyney University
Cheyney University students turned out September 15 at Marcus Foster Student Union Center for the Organization Fair, an annual event each fall that provides a snapshot of the clubs, greek organizations and activities that students can participate in and join.  Leaders and members manned each table, handing out information, while Student Activity leaders handed out Cheyney giveaways and swag.
One highlight was the launch of a new partnership with Zipcar, the world's leading car sharing network, to offer a Zipcar car sharing program on campus. The convenient transportation option is now available at an affordable rate 24 hours a day, seven days a week for students, faculty, and staff ages 18 and older. People in the general public can also reserve a car as long as they're 21 and one is available.

Cheyney's two vehicles, a Ford Focus and a Ford Escape, are parked in designated parking spots in the Marcus Foster Student Center lot for convenient pick-up and return. Cheyney students, faculty and staff can join Zipcar at www.zipcar.com/cheyneyhttp://www.zipcar.com/cheyney.

"It's a new experience for us and a great opportunity," said Sharon Thorn, Director of Student Activities at Cheyney.

Not every Cheyney student, faculty or staff member has a personal vehicle and, while SEPTA buses run daily on campus, Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. J. Michael Harpe, says there was a clear need for alternative transportation.
"Partnering with Zipcar was an innovative solution. University students, faculty and staff can grab on a first-come basis one of the two Zipcars.  We look forward to having an extensive and flourishing relationship with Zipcar."
Cheyney University members can join for $15, with rates for Zipcar vehicles on campus starting as low as $7.50 per hour and $69 per day. After the first year, members will pay an annual membership fee of $25. Gas, insurance, and up to 180 miles of driving per day are included in Zipcar rates, and cars can be reserved for as little as an hour or for multiple days.

"The Zipcar program on campus gives students, faculty and staff the freedom of using a car without the hassles of owning one," said Katelyn Bushey, Zipcar director of university sales. "We're happy to partner with Cheyney University to give their community a transportation option to fit their needs and their wallet."

Participating members with smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices, may download the Zipcar mobile application to make reservations, lock and unlock the vehicles, and honk the horn to help locate the vehicle. Reservations can also be made over the phone or on Zipcar's website.  Additional information and promotions can also be found by following @ZipcarU on Twitter.
