Voorhees holds annual Founder’s Day Convocation
Voorhees College will celebrate Founder's Day on Thursday, April 9 at 10 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center with alumnus Dr. Leonard. F. Springs, II.

Springs joined President Barack Obama's administration in November 2009 as a federal student aid senior advisor in the U.S. Department of Education. He works with the Education Department and Financial Student Aid (FSA) leadership to provide support to traditionally under-resourced colleges and universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACUs) and other organizations devoted to helping schools transition successfully to the Direct Loan Program.

Additionally, Springs serves as president and CEO of The S-Group, Inc., an organizational development and strategic management firm in Charlotte, N.C. This firm specializes in implementing business management and business development processes. Springs previously served as senior vice president, director of supplier diversity and vice president of community relations for the Wachovia Corporation.

He is affiliated with various organizations including the Charlotte chapter of 100 Black Men of America, where he was a founding president for the chapter. Springs also served as vice chairman of the Voorhees College Board of Trustees.

Springs was recognized as one of America's top corporate officers in the September 1992 edition of Dollars and Sense magazine. He has authored many business and banking articles in local, regional and national publications and has received numerous awards and recognition from both the public and private sector.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Voorhees College and did post graduate studies at the University of South Carolina. Additionally, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Voorhees College.
