AAMU Will Host Honor Society's National Convention
The Alabama A&M University (Kappa Sigma) chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Incorporated, will host the organization's 62nd National Convention and 75th Anniversary Celebration on March 21-23, 2013, at the Holiday Inn Huntsville-Downtown. Most of the events will be held on the AAMU campus.
Founded in 1937 at Tennessee State University, Alpha Kappa Mu is a general scholarship honor society open to junior and senior men and women in all
academic areas who meet the requirements of the society. It promotes high scholarship; sincere and zealous endeavor in all fields of knowledge and service; cultivation of a high order of personal living; and developing an appreciation for scholarship and scholarly endeavor.
The conference theme is: "Scholarship, Leadership and Service: Repositioning Alpha Kappa Mu to Meet New Challenges of the Present and Future." According to Dr. Mollie Brown, national executive secretary/treasurer for the organization, the delegate count of conventions varies but could expand to include up to 100 delegates.
Dr. Cynthia Smith is advisor to AAMU's Kappa Sigma chapter. She has assembled an able nine-person steering committee comprised of (alphabetically) Dr. Barbara Anthony, Mildred Blackshear, Dr. Virginia Caples, Jasmine Green, Claudinette Purifoy, Marilyn Saintjones, Ashleight Trayvick and Terrance Vickerstaff.
For additional information about the AKM national convention, contact Dr. Smith at (256) 372-4172.
