Clark Atlanta University Names Lydia McKinley-Floyd Dean of the School of Business
Dr. Lydia McKinley-Floyd has been named dean of the School of Business at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), effective July 1, 2010.
A native of Chicago, McKinley-Floyd is an accomplished, highly respected leader in business management education. She has served as dean of the School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University and the College of Business Administration at Chicago State University, as well as associate dean in the College of Business Administration at Savannah State University and chair of the marketing department at CAU from 1991-2000 and 2004-2005.
Clark Atlanta University President Carlton E. Brown said, "We are extremely delighted to have Dr. McKinley-Floyd rejoin the CAU family, bringing with her a diverse portfolio of experience and wisdom earned as she has blazed her own professional career path. Her accomplishments, international experiences and vision are a perfect match to help our business students assume positions of leadership in a global market."
McKinley-Floyd earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle, and an MBA in marketing from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. She received a doctorate degree in interdisciplinary studies from Emory University.
The new dean also is well-published and widely traveled. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Journal of African Business, Business and Economic Review, and Psychology and Marketing, among others. She has traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean.
"Clark Atlanta University has a rich history and strong legacy in business education," McKinley-Floyd said. "The School of Business has produced outstanding business leaders for decades. The opportunity to lead the School of Business into new and exciting strategic directions is one in which I take great pride and plan to execute in creative and innovative ways that speak to the current and future needs of the global business community. The faculty and staff have made impressive accomplishments here. We will now work with collaborative momentum to advance the school to new and greater heights."
The School of Business at CAU awarded its first bachelor's degree in 1931. The graduate program was founded in 1946. The School was one of the first Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the nation to have its undergraduate and graduate business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). It continues to produce one of the largest classes of African-American MBAs in the world, while its undergraduate program is one of the top 10 percent producers of African-American business professionals in the nation.
Formed in 1988 by the consolidation of two historic institutions, Atlanta University (1865) and Clark College (1869), Clark Atlanta University is the largest of the United Negro College Fund institutions with an enrollment of nearly 4,000 students. Clark Atlanta University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone 404-679-4501) to award the Bachelor's, Master's, Specialist and Doctor's degrees. The Carnegie Classification lists CAU as a Research University - High Research Activity. CAU is listed as one of the best southeastern colleges by The Princeton Review and has been selected to the Washington Monthly's 2008 list of best colleges and universities. National business and consumer publications rank Clark Atlanta high among the best buys in American higher education.
