Cheyney University Offers Free Hyatt High School Summer Bridge Program Beginning July 19
Cheyney University's Hotel, Restaurant, & Tourism Management program (HRTM) will offer a Hyatt High School Summer Bridge Program on its campus from Sunday July 19 to Friday July 24. The six-day residential program will introduce participating  high school students to the five major sectors of the modern hospitality industry-hotels & lodging, food & beverage, travel & tourism, recreation & leisure, and meetings & events. The program, which includes all meals, lodging and necessary materials, is offered free of charge thanks in part to a $7000 grant from Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Space is available for up to 15 participants.
Hosted by Cheyney University's Hotel, Restaurant, & Tourism Management (HRTM) program, the daily agenda includes an early morning yoga session, a morning icebreaker and overview of the day's activities, and an off-site field experience.  Each evening, participants will have a one-mile walk/run and a couple of hours of free time and access to an open gym. Click here for the full itineraryhttp://www.cheyney.edu/htlm/documents/hyatt_hs_bridge_program_prelim_agenda.pdf. Throughout the program, participants will stay in a residence hall with chaperones on Cheyney's campus.
Cheyney University HRTM Director Ivan Turnipseed is enthusiastic about the upcoming program. "Students who are interested in trying out the college experience and learning more about the hospitality industry should consider applying. This is an exciting, hands-on and student-centered environment."
In addition to working with Cheyney faculty, staff, and student mentors, there will be multiple opportunities to engage with industry guest speakers and enjoy presentations, daily health and wellness activities and related behind-the-scenes field trips to a hotel, an amusement park, a sports stadium, a nature preserve, a restaurant and an airport.
Selectees must be current high school sophomores, juniors or seniors who are interested in the hospitality and/or culinary fields and have at least a 2.5 grade point average.  Applications,  due by June 19, can be DOWNLOADEDhttp://www.cheyney.edu/htlm/documents/hyatt_hs_bridge_program_application_2015.pdf HEREhttp://www.cheyney.edu/htlm/documents/hyatt_hs_bridge_program_application_2015.pdf.http://www.cheyney.edu/htlm/documents/hyatt_hs_bridge_program_application_2015.pdf If you would like more information, please email iturnipseed@cheyney.edumailto:iturnipseed@cheyney.edu.
