Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating, really celebrating, the upcoming 5th Biennial Membership Meeting, scheduled October 21-23 in New Orleans, LA.  I'm so pleased that sixty-three institutions and ninety-three individuals are registered for this most important meeting. "Protecting our Legacy, Preserving our Story: A Decade of Investment in HBCU Libraries" is our theme and speaks to the significant work of the HBCU Library Alliance in service to member institutions.

Your attendance and participation are vital to the success of this meeting. The Sunday, October 21st Andrew W. Mellon funded pre-conference Using Effective Advocacy and Fundraising to Preserve HBCUs Rich Photographic Legacy will provide education on photograph preservation, pairing HBCU demonstration project participants with project consultants to address topics in best practices, preservation planning, risk assessment, and advocacy and fundraising. The pre-conference is open to all meeting attendees.
Monday's Business meeting sessions have been designed to carefully consider and strategize the future directions of our unique organization.  I'm excited that Dr. Joseph Silver, President, Alabama State University and consultant for the Sustainability Planning Project, will share the results of his work and focus group sessions.

Dr. Consuella Askew, Associate Dean For Public Services, Florida International University Libraries, and consultant for the initial 2003 Leadership Program Planning Grant, will facilitate a session on future directions for the Alliance. Please come prepared for this working session with your suggestions and concerns.
