To all of you in our HBCU Library Community:
I would like to express my sincere sadness over the loss of our esteemed library leader, Dr. Tommy Holton. He was among the members of our founding team and led the committee that originally planned the statistical analysis work which was later compiled as "The State of Libraries at Historically Black Colleges and Universities," in 2005. His background in computer science coupled with his outstanding work record at Harvard University made him a most valuable contributor in our effort to collect data about our libraries. Dr. Holton loved Dillard, HBCUs, and was most proud of the success of the HBCU Library Alliance. As Dean, he was responsible for completing the renovation of the Dillard library after Hurricane Katrina. He was a person of outstanding character and kindness. His humble nature often prevented others from knowing about his distinguished contributions to the field of library and information science. I ask that we all offer prayers of comfort to his family and that we long remember him in our future endeavors with the Alliance.
