North Carolina Central Universityhttp://www.nccu.edu/ (NCCU) will welcome Bakari Sellers, politician and CNN commentator, as a speaker for its Rock the Mic Lecture Series on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in B.N. Duke Auditorium. The event will take place at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Sellers made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African-American elected official in the nation.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Morehouse College and a juris doctor from the University of South Carolina. He currently practices law with the Strom Law Firm LLC in Columbia, S.C.

Now in its third year, the Rock the Mic Lecture Series brings in some of the nation's top thought-leaders and entrepreneurs to engage students on relevant topics in education, entertainment, politics and social justice. This year's lectures are presented in collaboration with the university's Lyceum Series.

Other speakers for the 2017-18 Rock the Mic Lecture Series will include:
?  Feb. 21: Symone Sanders, democratic strategist and political commentator
?  March 1: Zane, New York Times best-selling author and publisher
