TU Golden Voices Choir sings with John Legend and Common during Selma march re-enactment

The Tuskegee University Golden Voices Concert Choir sang at a star-studded recreation of the 1965 Selma march for civil rights. On Sunday, Oprah Winfrey, Common and other celebrities connected with the film "Selma" re-enacted the historic march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. After the march, the choir joined Common and John Legend to sing "Glory" the Oscar-nominated song from the movie. The song has already won a Golden Globe for Best Song.

"Yesterday's event was truly a mountaintop experience.  I am so happy that the Tuskegee Choir was approached to be a part of it.  The fact that Mr. John Legend specifically requested our choir speaks volumes about Tuskegee University as an institution of renown.  Last minute circumstances presented the opportunity for the choir to LEAD the re-enactment of the Selma to Montgomery March while singing We Shall Overcome.  The culminating experience of singing and interacting with John Legend and Common has made a lasting impression on choir members and director alike.  It was a quite a window through which to showcase Tuskegee University to the world!", said Dr. Wayne Barr, Director of Choral Activities.
