The Moorland-Spingarn Research Center (MSRC) at Howard Universityhttp://howard.us9.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=0aeb916d221cfa3ff39cc68aa&id=73fb6776f0&e=98ba71cc2c is one of the largest repositories of archival materials relating to the history and culture of people of African descent throughout the Diaspora. During the 2015-16 academic year, the MSRC, in collaboration with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will once again offer its Travel-to-Collections Grants program to support research in African American, African, and African Diasporic Studies that would benefit from access to its rare manuscript, book, photography and archival collections.

The MSRC will award up to five (5) Travel-to-Collections Grants in amounts not to exceed $2,500. The amount awarded to each recipient will be determined by the number of proposals funded and funds available. Recipients will be provided with financial and research support to help defray the costs associated with research-related travel to the MSRC and to facilitate their investigations while on campus.

Faculty members, graduate students, and independent scholars who are not affiliated with Howard University are eligible to apply. Applicants must live at least 100 miles from Howard University’s campus, located in Washington, DC.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to speak with a member of the MSRC staff about their project proposals before applying for a Travel-to-Collections Grant. Staff members are available to help applicants identify potential MSRC collections and materials of which may not be included in the Center’s online database
