Wiley College News February 19, 2012 DARK SYMPHONY NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS Literary journal named in honor of poem by Melvin B. Tolson Dark Symphony, the new literary journal at Wiley College, is now accepting submissions for its second issue. The journal is named after one of the most celebrated poems of Melvin B. Tolson, a noted professor, scholar, and poet who taught at Wiley from 1924-1947, and led the College’s debate team in the 1930s. The poem was published in the historic Atlantic Monthly, and was set to music by Earl Robinson and performed by Paul Robeson. Wiley English Professor Delicia D. Daniels is spearheading the publication of Dark Symphony. She said the journal honors Dr. Tolson’s “legacy and creative objectives for students and faculty of Wiley College.” Submissions to the journal may include short fiction, excerpts of novels, and political/opinionated essays of 2,000 words or less. Submissions may also include poems (limit of two ), artwork (limit of four), and music compositions. All items must be submitted in Times New Roman (font size 11) as a Microsoft Word Document Compatible Version (97-2004). Authors should place their name, e-mail address, and phone number in the top right corner of each entry. All submissions should be e-mailed to Professor Daniels at ddaniels@wileyc.edu. The deadline to submit items is March 23, 2012. Authors will be contacted if their submissions are selected for inclusion in the journal. SANDRA M.
