CCC to host MVSU Mock Trial Team
The Coahoma Community College Department of Social Science will host Mississippi Valley State University's (MVSU) Mock Trial Team on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at 6 p.m., as they prepare for an upcoming national competition.
Since 1998, MVSU's Mock Trial Team, the only team at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the State of Mississippi and one of the few in the nation, has won numerous awards and significant scholarship money towards law school tuition for its members.
During the upcoming mock trial, taking place in the Whiteside Hall Lecture Room, the team will present a murder trial while receiving feedback and constructive criticism from CCC Social Science Chair Barbara Boschert and her husband, former Clarksdale City Attorney Curtis Boschert.
The Boscherts both previously coached a mock trial team at Clarksdale High School. The team was the only all-minority team to advance to the state competition, where it placed fifth.
Barbara Boschert encourages the CCC campus community to come out and witness this event.
"This is a tremendous opportunity, particularly for criminal justice and pre-law students. However, all CCC students can benefit from seeing Valley's award-winning team in action," Boschert said. "The trial will be a demonstration in strategic planning necessary to plan and present legal documents, critical thinking- including how to use facts to support a well-articulated argument-and public speaking."
For questions or more information, contact Boschert at (662) 621-4677 or bboschert@coahomacc.edu.
