Subject: Highlighting Libraries: Morgan State University (MD)

Greetings Colleagues,

Dr. Richard Bradberry, Director of Library Services, Morgan State University (MD), shares the following highlights about the Earl S. Richardson Library:

The Earl S. Richardson Library at Morgan State University (MSU) has acquired the law office collection of the late Honorable Elijah Cummings.  The Cummings Collection contains 642 boxes, over 200 linear feet, of materials.  These papers chronicle his administrative career in the Maryland State Legislature in Annapolis, MD, as well as his time as a member of the Maryland delegation in the U. S. House of Representatives, in Washington, DC.

There is a documentary being researched in the Dr. Ellen Irene Diggs Collection. This film is being done in conjunction with the MSU School of Global Journalism & Communication.

The Earl S. Richardson's Library Beulah Davis Room (Special Collections and Archives) is partnering with Historic Annapolis (MD) on an exhibition titled, "Summer's Legacy: Preserving The Beaches". The May exhibition will formally acknowledge the creation of the new Elktonia-Carr's Beach Park (the two beaches for blacks in Maryland in years past). The Davis Room holds the most comprehensive collection of Elktonia Beach history.

The Davis Room is partnering with the Department of Conservation at Johns Hopkins University to recruit and train African Americans in the field of conservation.

The Richardson Library's Associate Director of Special Collections and University Archivist, Dr. Ida Jones is scheduled to present at two conferences on the Dr. Ellen Irene Diggs Collection. In June, Dr. Jones will present at the 2023 Gender and Sexuality Conference in Budapest, Hungary; and, in November 2023, at the American Anthropological Association Conference in Toronto, Canada.
