BSC Administrator's Commentary to be Published in Diverse Magazine
A commentary written by Bluefield State College administrator Dr. Guy Sims has been selected for inclusion in the March 27, 2014 issue of Diverse Magazine. Dr. Sims' submission, "The Spectre of Academic Employment: The Diversity Statement," considers the use of a Diversity Statement in current advertisements for college and university faculty positions.
Although it's too soon to label as a "trend" the inclusion of a Diversity Statement in current announcements for faculty positions, according to Dr. Sims, it does give some hope for a modestly increasing understanding of the importance of "cultivating and maintaining the kinds of (diverse) campus communities we profess to be important."
