Fayetteville State University Students Win Top Awards at Model United Nations Conference
Fayetteville State University (FSU) captured top honors at the 27th Annual North Carolina Consortium for International and Intercultural Education (NCCIIE) Model United Nations Conference held April 21, 2016, through April 24, 2016, at the Marriott in Greensboro, N.C. FSU swept the competition, taking home the most awards by a single university.  FSU was awarded the Overall Outstanding Delegate and the Overall Outstanding Delegation, the competition's two highest honors
The North Carolina Consortium for International and Intercultural Education (NCCIIE) Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations that brings together students, faculty and administrators from colleges and universities across the state. The purpose of the Model U.N. Conference is to equip students with global understanding and awareness by educating them on the functions, organs, and operations of the United Nations, and refines their diplomatic, communication, and leadership skills to be prepared for a globally competitive world.
In Model United Nations, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from U.N. member states to debate current issues on the organization's vast agenda. Student "delegates" in Model United Nations prepare draft resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and intensely navigate the United Nations rules of procedures, as applied in the respective United Nations bodies, all in the interest of "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect almost every member country.
FSU students won the following awards:
Starling, Charles          Overall Outstanding Delegate Award
Jones, Christina            Outstanding Individual Performance in Committee
Mason, Courtney          Outstanding Individual Performance in Committee
Sawyer, Brandon          Outstanding leadership Award
Overall Outstanding Delegation Award - Libyan Delegation
Ceasar, Nicholas;          Starling, Charles
Simpson, Michael          Williams, Wesley M
FSU is the second-oldest public institution in North Carolina. A member of the University of North Carolina System, FSU has more than 6,100 students and offers degrees in more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
