HU Counseling Programs receive accreditation
The Hampton University Department of Counseling in the School of Education and Human Development recently received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Student Affairs and College Counseling programs received accreditation.
CACREP accredits master's and doctoral degree programs in counseling and its specialties that are offered by colleges and universities in the United States and throughout the world.
"The field of counseling, as mental health providers, is growing rapidly and this accreditation opens many new employment opportunities for our graduates to include the Department of Defense," said Dr. Spencer Baker, Chair of the Department of Counseling. "The accreditation also provides an easier path for our graduates to seek certification as a National Certified Counselor and license as a professional counselor."
The mission of the HU Department of Counseling is to create an environment conducive to spirituality, self-examination, collaboration, and reflection for the development and growth of professional counselors who are leaders and advocates within communities and various settings.
