S.C. State renews partnership with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

SC State University and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Charleston District renewed a partnership agreement that provides STEM opportunities for university students and faculty. The three-year agreement was initially established in 2011. The mutually beneficial partnership was established because both organizations recognized that science, technology, engineering and mathematics will enhance the future political and economic well-being of the nation.

"Students can apply what they learn in the classroom with the opportunities that the Army Corps of Engineers provide. The partnership will allow our students the opportunity to obtain summer employment and participate in internship and co-op programs. We hope that participation in these programs will lead to full-time employment," stated Joseph Thomas, director of the SC State University Career Center.

Additionally, the partnership provides professional development opportunities for students and faculty, seeks to develop a diverse pool of professionals whose talents and strengths may contribute to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and educates students of the Corps mission and core values.

The opportunity is open to all students, with specific emphasis on students in the STEM programs.

To apply for the program and for more information, visit the SC State University Career Center, located in Belcher Hall Suite 250, or contact Joseph Thomas at (803) 536-8577 or jthoma21@scsu.edumailto:jthoma21@scsu.edu.
