Howard University Names New Chief Operating Officer

After a nationwide search, Howard University has named Tony Bansal, former chief administrative officer of Northern Virginia Community College, as the University's new chief operating officer.
Bansal comes to Howard with more than 25 years of results-oriented experience in assisting companies and institutions of higher education to improve operational efficiencies.
"We are excited to have Mr. Bansal join the Howard University family as chief operating officer," said Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, president of Howard University. "Mr. Bansal brings a combined background in enterprise management, technology architecture and financial expertise that will help propel our current trajectory and overall mission for operational efficiency."
Bansal has been a leader at a variety of mid-market and Fortune 500 enterprises. At ICF Kaiser Systems, where he joined as an entry-level associate, he played a significant role in helping the company grow from $10 million to $1.3 billion in annual sales, became president of a first-tier subsidiary and assisted the company through an IPO and a secondary public offering. Subsequently, he served as president and CEO of Digital Commerce Corporation, an e-commerce company focused on the B2G market, which he helped turn around and file for an IPO.
As a vice president of strategic planning and business development at Harris Corporation, he implemented a business development and capture program in line with the company's long-term goals, and was instrumental in identifying and pursuing numerous deals with a diversified portfolio of federal agencies.
"I am honored to be the new Chief Operating Officer of Howard University," said Bansal. "Howard University is an iconic institution and it will be exciting to work towards broader goals of operational efficiency and technical excellence, both in our business operations and academic instruction."
Bansal replaces Artis Hampshire-Cowan, Esq., who served as interim COO.
"We thank Mrs. Hampshire-Cowan for her continued loyal dedication and commitment to Howard University," President Frederick added.
