Clark Atlanta University Theatre Majors Awarded Partial Scholarships to Study Shakespeare in England

Clark Atlanta University is pleased to announce three theatre majors have been selected to attend the British American Drama Academy (BADA) Midsummer in Oxfordhttp://www.bada.org.uk/study/midsummer-in-oxford-program/ acting intensive this summer.  Ms. Trejhaun DueBerry, class of 2020, Ms. Keara Jones, class of 2019, and Ms. Therecia Lang, class of 2020 were chosen from a large pool of candidates studying acting at universities all over the world to participate in this classical theatre training program.

Applicants were to audition in early February of 2019 for the highly competitive program using Shakespearean monologues and complete a skype interview with the BADA faculty in order to be considered.

BADA is run in association with The Yale School of Drama and was founded in 1984 to classically train actors in British acting methodologies.  In the past, BADA has partnered with drama programs at several universities such as The Juilliard School and Sarah Lawrence College.  Former Alumni of BADA include Chadwick Boseman, Orlando Bloom, Terrell Alvin McCraney David Schwimmer, Paul Giamatti, and Justin Theroux.

All three CAU theatre majors will study physicality in performance, voice, audition technique, metre, caesura, and the works of Shakespeare in depth.  Ms. Dueberry, Ms. Jones, and Ms. Lang were awarded partial scholarships to attend BADA's Midsummer in Oxford Program.  They are working hard and looking for financial support to raise the additional funds they will need to purchase airfare, and to pay the remaining balance for tuition and board.  They are the first CAU theatre students that have been selected for this prestigious program and awarded partial scholarships.

"The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts at Clark Atlanta University is training global scholar-practitioners who are fulfilling the university's mission to be innovative change agents and leaders in STEAM," said Dr. Eve Graves, chairperson of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts.
