Tuskegee University News November 7, 2011 Tuskegee University Students Become State Legislators For a Day Tuskegee University students had a chance to be state legislators during a mock session at the Alabama State House on Oct. 27. Before their visit, students and advisers were selected from colleges across campus and divided into three groups. They did research and prepared reports on education funding, health care, and crime and punishment. They also studied debate techniques. During the mock session, students debated and made resolutions on their study topics. "The students and the tireless team of advisers that spent considerable amounts of time preparing them along with the unreserved support of the deans and the administration made this possible," Thierno Thiam, special assistant to the president for global affairs, said of the visit to the state house. Special guests invited to the session were: Rep. Pebblin Warren, Rep. Blaine Galliher, Rep. Demetrius Newton, Tuskegee Mayor Omar Neal, civil rights attorney Fred Gray, Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, and Gov. Robert Bentley. SANDRA M.
