Spelman's Rosalind Brewer Named First Female, African-American CEO of Sam's Club Retail Chain
The Wal-Mart Stores Corporation last Friday named Spelman College alumna Rosalind Brewer president and CEO of its Sam's Club retail chainhttp://in.reuters.com/article/2012/01/20/walmart-idINDEE80J0FZ20120120. She is the first female and first African-American to head one of the company's three business units. From the Reuters report:
Brewer joined Wal-Mart in 2006 as a regional vice president after spending years at Kimberly-Clark Corp. She was selected as one of the most powerful women in business by Fortune magazine in 2010 and 2011 and sits on the board of Lockheed Martin Corp. She was also the first chair of the Walmart President's Council of Global Women Leaders.
Sam's Club's 610 stores grossed $49.46 billion in 2011.
