Office of Marketing and Communications attend Social Media and Marketing Conference

Two representatives from Alcorn State University's Office of Marketing and Communications participated in a conference to broaden their awareness of social media marketing.
Tommie Green, office manager for the Office, and Justus Reed, staff writer, attended the Skill Path Social Media Marketing Conference at the Courtyard by Marriott in Jackson, Mississippi Thursday, Oct. 18.
Skill Path provides professionals worldwide with strategic and innovative training solutions. The company's mission is to provide the highest quality training for companies and businesspeople around the world so they can benefit personally from the experience.
For Green, the conference provided information that he can use to improve his productivity in the workplace.
"My experience allowed me to enhance my marketing skills," said Green. "The information that I gained was very explanatory and useful."
Reed appreciated how descriptive the presenters were during their presentations.
"The presenters did a great job at explaining the ins and outs of social media marketing and how to use it to your advantage," said Reed. "The information can be used on the job and independently by those who desire to work for themselves."
Learning how to use new methods of promotion is what stood out for Green.
"I learned how to utilize multiple outlets that will help Alcorn promote the diverse student, employee, and alumni heritage that our university has to offer. This information is important because everyone should know the accomplishments of our university."
Gaining insight into adequately navigating through social media caught Reed's attention and motivated him to put the lessons into action.
"The information on how to post on social media and understanding analytics were valuable. These lessons will allow me to be aware of target audiences and what they like most."
