INFORMATION LITERACY INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summary:
The Information Literacy and Instruction Librarian in the Drake Learning Resources Center is an energetic, innovative, and service oriented leader that applies new twenty first century approaches to research, reference instruction, and distance services. The Librarian is an accomplished leader, skilled in managing change in an evolving technological environment and astute in responding to and analyzing customers (students and faculty) issues and concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with the Assistant Director for Research and Information Literacy Services (RILS) for the activities of the Information Literacy Instruction Program for First Year Experience, Freshman Academy, Freshman Assemblies, and Graduate Studies
  • Teaches and Engages faculty in Information Literacy and reference instruction for their students
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Research and Information Literacy Services to develop new instruction application of technology that is outcome based
  • Prepares and update subject Libguides; and ensure the assigned program liaison areas are collection age appropriate through regularly collection development
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Research and Information Literacy Services to prepare quarterly and annual reports of Information Services activities
  • Collaborates with a team of Librarians to plan, implement, promote, and evaluate the library information literacy and instruction program
  • Maintains competency in using Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) and other traditional and electronic information resources, especially library related databases
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services or the department head for RILS

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • Master's Degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master's program (MLS/MLIS)

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Creative Commons Copyright license

  • Experience working in an academic library with undergraduate and graduate students

  • Must be able to work mornings, nights, and weekends
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience teaching in a library setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in using print and electronic research resources

  • Excellent customer service skills and one-on-one information/reference instruction skills

  • Solid knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office

  • Ability to operate standard equipment such as personal computer and laser printer, as well as the ability to do technical troubleshooting

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders from different

  • cultural backgrounds

  • Knowledge of the ACRL Framework for information literacy and digital fluency

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.

SALARY:
The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
