Good afternoon:

Can we hear information from each of our schools about the manner in which the institutions are responding to this pandemic threat, and also what the libraries are specifically doing?  Also there is a survey from ITHAKA that you may want to respond to...these avenues are important ways for the voice and experiences of our institutions (HBCU'S) to be heard.  https://surveys.ithaka.org/jfe/form/SV_8qN8F2274hMBBBz

For the AUC:

The schools of the Atlanta University Center (Morehouse/Spelman/Clark Atlanta Univ/Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse School of Medicine) are extending the spring break for one additional week.  So instead of ending COB 3/13 it will end COB 3/20.  All institutions will move to online delivery of courses (a mix of synchronous and asynchronous) through the end of this spring semester.

We are likely going to close our front doors to students, staff, faculty and visitors; but all library staff to report so that we can support the schools and the online learning that will be in place.  (Yikes!)  We have cancelled events, symposiums etc.

Right now our campus has extended Spring Break by a week with a regular work schedule for staff. In the meantime, the Buildings and Grounds staff are deep cleaning and preparing the campus facilities. The instructors have been asked to prepare for "in-case" by prepping for online instruction as an alternative. We use Canvas as our usual means of online course distribution, but the faculty was informed of several other venues that could be used if they preferred. The library is staying open using its usual Spring Break schedule of Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm. We also have hand sanitizer and Kleenex distributed around our counters and have made disinfectant wipes available to wipe public use items.

We are on spring break next week 3/16 - 3/20. The following was sent by the Interim President earlier today:  Savannah State University is carefully monitoring developments of the coronavirus disease COVID-19 situation. University officials will continue to use information, guidance, and recommendations from Centers for Disease Control and Preventionhttps://www.cdc.gov/ (CDC) and Georgia Department of Health that can best inform our decisions and shape the university's response.

Faculty, staff, and students are asked to contact the health center prior to returning to campus.

The Center for Teaching and Faculty Development is providing a number of training workshop opportunities this week as a part of a preparedness plan to minimize the disruption to students, faculty and staff in the event that Savannah State is affected  and may need to move all academic classes to an online delivery format.

We are taking steps to enhance and increase keeping the library clean with posted signs for the need for hand washing, providing additional sanitizer wipes in areas most frequently used by patrons and increased cleaning of keyboards and mouse.  We will have to follow whatever guidance we receive from the USG if it becomes necessary to close campus.
