Your Input Needed: Contribute to the Best Practices Guide for Hiring Students

Dear HBCU Library Alliance Colleagues,

I hope you are doing well. As we continue our mission to support and elevate HBCU students, I'm thrilled to remind you of an exciting collaborative initiative. The HBCU Library Alliance, in partnership with Brown University Library, is embarking on a journey to create a "Best Practices Guide for Hiring Students."

Brown University Library received a $246,000 Implementation Grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program. "Advancing HBCU Scholarship, Diversifying Digital Publishinghttps://hbculibraries.org/docs/HBCU-Brown.pdf" project is a three-year program designed to provide specialized training and support to HBCU library professionals to develop open-access born-digital scholarship. This initiative is not just about research; it's about nurturing the next generation of scholars.

Project Overview: The "Best Practices Guide for Hiring Studentshttps://hbculibraries-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/swillis_hbculibraries_org/EgqnECjpMvJAvpiRlcMqQZABt5fM6AKJQinwzHfsRU70RA?e=ZZGcsP" will serve as a comprehensive resource covering topics like intern/fellow task lists, training for research students transitioning to digital scholarship projects, and the specific needs of hiring students for projects commencing in different semesters.

The documents of interest include Student Project Plans, Student Selection Criteria and Forms, Student Evaluation and Feedback Surveys, Progress Reports, Resource Allocation Records, and any Legal and Ethical Documents relevant to digital projects.

In the spirit of creating this collaborative resource, we would like to encourage you to contribute any relevant student-related documents or insights from hiring students. However, please ensure you have the appropriate copyright permissions for any materials you share, as we plan to share this guide with partner libraries and future internship/fellowship host sites.
