Athletics Receives Hybrid Vehicle From Toyota
Shaw University Athletics received a brand new Toyota Prius from Leith Toyota in Raleigh, NC. The donation is in conjunction with the Toyota Green Initiative (TGI), a five-year partnership with HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to help schools to continue their commitment to sustainability. The hybrid vehicle will be used by Shaw staff for campus-related athletic, administrative and facilities use.
TGI is an environmental stewardship platform designed to educate HBCU students and alumni on the benefits of adopting a sustainable lifestyle. The program launched in 2010 and is currently in its fifth year. As the program begins its fifth-year, Toyota is providing historically black institutions with a product that would help improve campus environment and promote sustainability to students, alumni and their local community.
"We're grateful to Toyota for this donation and we welcome the opportunity to play a continuing role in the Green Initiative," said Shaw Athletics Director Marcus Clarke. "Toyota has been a long-time supporter of the CIAA and HBCU athletics. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and participating in future sustainability projects."
