Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Highlights are detailed below.

Board Chair Cynthia Henderson was an invited participant at the May 2,3 ALA Summit on the Future of Libraries held at the Library of Congress. Founding Board Chair Loretta Parham was also an invited participant. Participants were challenged to imagine a library of the future. The Summit is a kickoff to the planned Center for the Future of Libraries to be established by the ALA this summer. The Summit report is attached to this e-mail.

Shatiqua Mosby-Wilson, Southern University New Orleans, accepted Chair Henderson's Board appointment to serve a balance-of-term At-Large position ending June 2016.

The Board acknowledged Kate Nevins' 20th anniversary at LYRASIS, her role in the creation of the HBCU Library Alliance, and her continued support of Alliance activities.

Cynthia Henderson has been elected Chair of the LYRASIS Trustee Board. Her term will begin this August and end July 2015.

Financials

Eighty-two members remitted FY14 dues. The FY 15 budget is under development.

Expanding Library Support for Faculty Research

The library survey was distributed to seventy-five institutions and returned from seventy-one institutions. Of the seventy-one institutions, forty-nine indicated research in their mission.  The faculty survey was distributed to those forty-nine institutions, returning 340 responses. Next steps are data clean-up and report writing.

2014 Membership Meeting

The 6th Biennial meeting is scheduled Sunday through Tuesday, October 26-28 at the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown. "Transforming Libraries for the 21st Century and Beyond: Sustaining the HBCU Library Alliance" is the meeting's theme.  Loretta Parham is Planning Committee Chair. Registration numbers are low; thirty individuals representing twenty-five institutions have registered for the meeting, but should improve after July. The Board will assist with follow-up calls to members not yet registered. Vendor support has been confirmed for the Sunday reception, Monday breakfast and Monday lunch.
