No Negative Findings for Denmark Technical College from SACSCOC Onsite Review Committeehttp://www.denmarktech.edu/?p=5186
Denmark Technical College (DTC) was reviewed by an onsite reaffirmation committee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) as part of the college's reaffirmation review. The committee had no negative findings. However, the findings of this committee represent a preliminary assessment of the institution at this time. Final action on the review of the institution rests with the SACSCOC Board of Trustees which will be made in June, 2015.
The two and a half day visit by the onsite team culminated with an exit conference where the SACSCOC committee informed President Leonard A. McIntyre that it had zero recommendations for DTC to address in either the Focus Report or Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
Dr. McIntyre thanked the onsite review committee members for their hard work and diligence in generating their report. Additionally, President McIntyre praised the efforts put forth from across the campus to prepare for the visit. He stated, "I especially want to thank the students, faculty, staff, the executive council, and everyone who participated in making this outstanding peer review possible." He continued, "This has been a tremendous team effort, and having a solid foundation on which to stand will facilitate achieving our goals and realizing the vision we all share for DTC. We have successfully initiated and implemented the guiding principles of accreditation. Now, we must strive for institutionalization and make them a part of our ongoing culture here at DTC as we move forward."
To be accredited and reaffirmed, the college must demonstrate compliance with the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation and prepare a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The satisfactory report presented by the SACSCOC onsite team during their exit conference clearly affirms DTC's proposed QEP to be innovative and effective. DTC chose Writing as its QEP topic and "P.O.W.E.R.S. to Articulate through Writing" as its title. The lead QEP evaluator cited several demonstrable strengths of the QEP to include strong identifiable student learning outcomes, sufficient staffing, adequate resources, and alignment to institutional goals and the mission of the college.
According to Melinda Fadipe, Developmental English Instructor and Interim Director of the QEP, "Developing the QEP has been both challenging as well as extremely rewarding. I believe our Quality Enhancement Plan will improve our students' writing skills, develop their higher order thinking, and equip them to obtain success through their increased ability to communicate effectively in the workplace. Through the perpetuation of a culture of writing, we are certain that when coupled with a collaborative working environment and sustainable infrastructure, the QEP will deliver great outcomes with regards to student performance. Essentially, the winning team of DTC is convinced that "P.O.W.E.R.S. to Articulate through Writing" will result in success for our students."
