Summer program encourages leadership among young people

About 40 high school students from six states were hosted by the Tuskegee University Continuing Education Program for Summer Leadership Academy 2013 that concluded this past Friday. The annual program teaches young people about the importance of community involvement, life skills, history and leadership. The week of activities included lessons on study habits, proper business attire and history field trips here and in Montgomery, Ala. During the closing ceremony in the auditorium of the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Tuskegee University, the students shared group presentations on several subjects including: adding more restaurants to the City of Tuskegee, cyber bullying, music's influence on teens, rising gas prices, underage drinking, and teen pregnancy. After the presentations, the youths were presented certificates and awards for demonstrating leadership qualities and skills during the week.
