Coahoma Community College News June 13, 2017 CCC Polysomnography program accepting applications now through Sept. 11 Don't "sleep" on Coahoma Community College's (CCC's) Polysomnography program, which is now accepting applications for its Spring 2018 class. CCC's Polysomnography or Sleep Technology program, the only accredited program of its kind in the state, offers individuals education and preparation to become a nationally registered Polysomnographic Technologist. The program is currently accepting applications through Sept. 11. "Polysomnography is the study of sleep-how people progress in their sleep throughout the night," said Kristina Davis, CCC polysomnography technology program director. The emerging field has an entry-level salary ranging from $39,000 to about $50,000 per year and opportunities for employment at hospitals, home health facilities and independent labs. Projected job growth is also promising with the need for Polysomnographic Technologist rapidly increasing as research continues to show the correlation between sleep and overall health. "We equip our graduates with the ability and skills to find employment anywhere in the world and make a comfortable living," said Davis. "This career is a great choice for someone who desires to work in health care but may not be interested in providing direct patient care." With affordable tuition and a Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) Exam pass rate of 100 percent for the past two years, CCC's program is also competitive with health science program at surrounding colleges and states. Program requirements include general admission to the college, completion of Anatomy & Physiology I and II with a C or better within the last five years, and an ACT composite score of at least 16. The program offers two tracks-a three-semester Career Technical Certificate and an Associate Degree in Science, which entails 10 hours of general academics. Once admitted, students receive instruction from CCC's highly qualified faculty and are prepared for the workforce through clinicals at health care facilities from Memphis, TN to Jackson, MS. "This career gives you the opportunity to really connect with patients and interact with them when they're at their most vulnerable-when they're going to sleep," said Davis. "When you can help them identify the problems and get them the proper treatment, they're so relieved. ...It makes it all worthwhile."
