Angele Moss-Baker’s Election Makes History in the 44-year-old Organization
A Bowie State University graduate, professional counselor and business owner has made history by becoming the first Black woman to be elected president of the 44-year-old American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).

With more than 25 years of providing behavioral health treatment services, Angele Moss-Baker (’86) is the owner of Comprehensive Addiction & Psychological Services in Washington, DC. She is a licensed professional counselor, marriage & family therapist and master addiction counselor. As president, Moss-Baker’s focus is to address the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic, along with structural and systemic racism, present to society and mental health care.
“It is my honor to represent the thousands of clinical mental health counselors at the forefront of discussions when policymaker and mental health stakeholders search for practical solutions to the challenges in our nation’s mental health system. I am committed to do whatever I can to address the needs and promote the interests of clinical mental health counselors around the country,” Moss-Baker said to the AMHCA. “I will listen and serve as your liaison to open doors and make tough decisions for the enrichment of AMHCA and its membership as a whole.”
