Lincoln University News November 24, 2014 Lincoln University president resigns post Lincoln University President Robert Jennings announced his resignation Monday. Kimberly Lloyd, chair of the university's board of trustees, announced the university's general counsel, Valerie Harrison, will serve as acting president for the historically Black university 45 minutes southwest of Philadelphia, in rural southern Chester County. "The future is bright," Lloyd stated in a letter released Monday morning. She said the board of trustees and university leadership remain focused on their shared mission of educating future leaders. Jennings had served as president since Jan. 2, 2012. Earlier this month, the board of trustees ordered an internal review of remarks made by him during an all-women's convocation in September. He has since issued a public apology, stating in a letter to the university community that he intended to highlight Lincoln's zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct while emphasizing personal responsibility and mutual respect. However, some people in attendance interpreted his statements about women who falsely claimed to have been raped as blaming them for the sexual assault. He was the 13th president of the country's first degree-granting HBCU, or historically Black college and university. SANDRA M.
