WSSU Dean on Panel for National Humanities Alliance Annual Meeting
Dr. Corey D. B. Walker, dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education at Winston-Salem State University, has been invited to participate in the 2015 annual meeting of the National Humanities Alliance March 16-17 in Washington, D.C.

Walker will serve on a panel addressing "The Common Good:  Humanities in the Public Square," a new initiative from the National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman William "Bro" Adams.  Other panel members include deans from the University of South Carolina and the University of California, Los Angeles.

"The humanities enrich our understanding of ourselves, our communities and our world," said Walker.  "In a dynamic and ever changing world, the humanities provide us with innovative ways to think about and address difficult issues confronting society, from the influence of new technologies on our lives and environment to the decline in civic and political engagement to the development of policies and programs to help alleviate poverty and inequality.  Higher education has an obligation to support and to address how and in what ways the humanities are vitally important for the common good of our nation and our greater global community,"

The National Humanities Alliance annual meeting provides opportunities for participants to connect with a growing network of humanities leaders from across the country and to communicate the value of humanities research, education, programming and preservation to members of Congress.  The Alliance is the only organization that represents the U. S. humanities community as a whole.  Its members include scholarly and professional associations; higher education associates; organizations of museums, libraries, historical societies and state humanities councils; university-based and independent humanities research centers; and colleges and universities.
