Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and Poet Laureate Marc Harshman Headline WVSU Creators Program Fall Line-up

The fall season of West Virginia State University's (WVSU) Creators Program includes events featuring entertainer and "America's Got Talent" winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and W.Va. Poet Laureate Marc Harshman, among others.

The free workshop series will kick off with a Creators Talk by Harshman at the WVSU Economic Development Center (EDC) Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

"We're thrilled to host Marc for a relaxed evening of conversation and readings," said Daniel Boyd, Creators Program coordinator and artist in residence at the EDC. "He will read from his most recent works, as well as reflect upon his appointment and the place of poetry in the life of West Virginia and the nation."

Other workshops scheduled for the fall include "Making Movie Music" with Maestro Chuck Biel (Oct. 12), "Typography 101" with designer Brenda Pinnell of HepCatz Design (Oct. 26), and a Creators Dialogue with Murphy, in which he shares his journey from Logan County to the "America's Got Talent" stage (Nov. 16).

The Creators Program launched in 2012 as a series of community workshops focusing on skills and knowledge essential to creating for mass media and art. The EDC partners with WVSU Cultural Activities and the West Virginia Film Office on the series.

Workshops are designed for people of all skill levels, including students and others interested in expanding their creative endeavors.

Space is limited for Creators Program events, and registration is required. To register, visit www.edc.orghttp://www.edc.org/.

The WVSU EDC is located at 1506 Kanawha Blvd. W. in Charleston.
