President of Paul Quinn College wins leadership award for 2nd time
By Claire Ballor, Staff Writer

For the second time in his career, Paul Quinn College President Michael Sorrell was named the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Male President of the Year.
Sorrell has been nominated for the award five times in the six years it's been given by the HBCU Digest. He's the first recipient to win the title twice.
The decorated academic and former lawyer put the private Christian school back on the map after he took the position as president in 2007.
Sorrell has gained recognition for  his unconventional leadership and the many initiatives he has backed both at Paul Quinn and in the surrounding Oak Cliff community, such as the New Urban College Model and the school's own organic farm.
"President Sorrell is an inspiration to the Dallas community for his tireless work to make Paul Quinn College a pivotal influence in the lives of our students," said Don Clevenger, chairman of the college's board of trustees. "We are very proud that others are recognizing the president for the effort we see every day."
The college was also nominated for the HBCU of the year title, the third time the school has been recognized.
"I am incredibly thankful for what we have at Paul Quinn College," said Sorrell. "Occasions like this one remind me to never take the uniqueness of my circumstances for granted."
